COUNCIL ADOPTS RESOLUTIONS ON DATA CENTERS, UTILITY PRICES

On Tuesday, April 15, the County Council unanimously adopted a pair of resolutions, including CR-16-2025, proposed by Chair Edward Burroughs III (District 8), which establishes the Qualified Data Center Task Force. The 20-member task force will weigh the workforce development and financial benefits of bringing data centers to Prince George’s County against potential energy demands and impacts to residents, including environmental and quality of life. Chair Burroughs will appoint two members to the task force, who will serve as co-chairs. The task force will also be comprised of representatives from the data center community; the County Executive’s Office; the Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement; WSSC Water; Work Force Development; Economic Development Corporation; energy providers; and more. The task force will be required to present its final report and recommendations to the Council by November 30.

CR-17-2025, sponsored by Chair Burroughs and Vice Chair Krystal Oriadha (District 7), formally requests the Maryland Public Service Commission issue a moratorium on utility price increases.
