CHAIR BURROUGHS SPEAKS ABOUT PRIORITIES FOR COUNTY ON FOX5 MORNING SHOW

Council Chair Edward Burroughs (District 8) appeared on FOX5’s Morning Show where he discussed being youngest Council Chair in Prince George’s County history and priorities for his tenure as Chair. He talked about plans to increase county revenue without raising property taxes, primarily through attracting new industries, like data centers. He went on to discuss the need to reform Park and Planning to provide more options for youth, and the ways the county is assisting federal workers who have lost their jobs. When asked about his message to youth who might think they’re too young to do what he’s doing, Chair Burroughs said: “You’re never too young to do what God has destined you to do. You may make some mistakes but keep at it. Work harder than anyone else and your hard work and dedication will make room for your gift.”

COUNCIL MEMBERS SHOW SUPPORT FOR WRONGFULLY DEPORTED BELTSVILLE MAN

Council Members applaud the federal court ruling ordering the Trump administration to bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia home to Prince George’s County by Monday. Abrego Garcia’s family filed a federal lawsuit after officials for the US Government admitted he was wrongfully deported. Abrego Garcia, a father living in Beltsville, has protected legal status that should have prevented him from being deported, but he was arrested by ICE on March 12 and flown to El Salvador.
“We celebrate the court’s decision and stand in solidarity with Kilmar and his family. What happened to him is an absolute disgrace, and I pray for his safe return,” said Council Vice Chair Krystal Oriadha. “What the Trump administration is doing is not only deeply harmful—it’s a threat to our communities and our values. As the daughter of an immigrant, I know firsthand the fear and uncertainty that so many families are living with every day. Today’s victory is meaningful, but it is only one step forward. There are still countless families who need our advocacy, and we must continue to fight for justice and dignity for all."
Several Council Members attended Friday’s hearing for Abrego García and a CASA rally before the hearing, including Vice Chair Oriadha, Council Member Tom Dernoga, who represents Beltsville, Council Member Jolene Ivey, and Council Member Eric Olson. On Monday, The Trump administration asked the Supreme Court to block the court order to bring Abrego Garcia home.

COUNCIL MEMBER IVEY VISITS OFFICE OF VETERANS AFFAIRS
Council Member Jolene Ivey (At-Large) had the privilege of visiting the Office of Veterans Affairs in Upper Marlboro and meeting with Dr. James Dula and his amazing team. They have served over 200,000 veterans from around the DMV, assisting with housing, disability claims, in-home care, health benefits, mental health, employment, and more. They are a huge asset to our veterans and in these uncertain times, this agency is more important than ever.
