COUNCIL SETS DATES FOR SPECIAL ELECTION TO FILL AT-LARGE VACANCY
 Following the resignation of At-Large Council Member Mel Franklin on June 14, 2024, Council has set dates for a special primary and general election to fill the vacancy. At a meeting in Ocean City, Maryland on Tuesday, June 25, Council unanimously adopted a resolution that set the date of the special primary election for Tuesday, August 6, 2024, and the date of the special general election for Tuesday, November 5, 2024. The date by which a certificate of candidacy must be filed with the Board of Elections is Friday, July 5, 2024.
COUNCIL MEMBERS ATTEND MARYLAND MUNICIPAL LEAGUE CONVENTION IN OCEAN CITY
 Council Members participated in the Maryland Municipal League Summer Conference (MML) from June 23rd to 26th in Ocean City, Maryland. Did you know Prince George's County has 27 municipalities, the most in the state of Maryland? Chair Jolene Ivey (District 5), Vice Chair Sydney Harrison (District 9), and Council Members Calvin Hawkins (At-Large), Wanika Fisher (District 2), Eric Olson (District 3), and Ingrid Watson (District 4) came to support the cities and towns that are the lifeblood of our county and showcase what it really means to be Prince George's Proud! Maryland Gov. Wes Moore provided MML’s opening address.

 CHAIR IVEY ATTENDS COMMUNITY EVENTS

Council Chair Jolene Ivey (District 5) had the distinct honor of swearing in the new board of the Prince George's Chamber of Commerce, including the new Board Chair Tony Ruffin. She also visited the new fast-charging EV stations at the Fort Washington Park and Ride. As a member of Gov. Wes Moore's Zero Emission Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Committee and the Chair of Council of Government (COG)'s Climate, Energy, & Environment Policy Committee, she emphasizes the importance of investing in infrastructure for electric vehicles and other sustainable solutions that protect the environment.
Additionally, as a proud dog mom of two, Chair Ivey was ecstatic to celebrate the opening of Kentland Dog Park with members of the community, as well as the M-NCPPC team that helped make it possible. Bring your family and furry friends to check it out at 6432 Columbia Park Road in Hyattsville!
COUNCIL MEMBERS BLEGAY AND WATSON HOST ROUTE 301 TOWN HALL
 
Council Members Ingrid S. Watson (District 4) and Wala Blegay (District 6) held a town hall meeting to discuss traffic concerns stemming from new development along Route 301 (Crain Highway). The meeting on June 27th was held at Bowie City Hall, and featured presentations from the Maryland State Highway Administration, Prince George’s County Department of Public Works & Transportation, and the Prince George’s County Planning Department. Route 301 has been a source of frustration for many residents and commuters in the surrounding communities. With the potential for increasing traffic congestion, foot traffic and safety hazards, the Council Members feel that it’s crucial all stakeholders come together to find solutions to pressing issues.

COUNCIL MEMBER ORIADHA LAUNCHES SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAM AND HOSTS FREE CONCERT
 Council Member Krystal Oriadha (District 7) extends her thanks to everyone who participated in the first stop of her "D7 Youth Safe Summers Initiative"! The kids had a wonderful time. Council Member Oriadha is thrilled to partner with Judge Me Now EDU, Inc. to provide District 7 youth with fun, free and safe activities this summer. Council Member Oriadha also hosted a Black Music Summit outdoor concert in Suitland on June 28th in partnership with Creative Suitland. It was a vibrant celebration of the profound impact of Black music on culture, society, and activism, featuring bands including TOB Band and Show!
COUNCIL MEMBER WATSON HOSTS CHILDREN’S NATIONAL HOSPITAL – CHILDREN’S HEALTH ADVOCACY INSTITUTE
 Council Member Ingrid S. Watson (District 4) was honored to host her former colleagues and pediatric residents from Children’s National Hospital (CNH), Child Health Advocacy Institute (CHAI) for a lunch and learn event, an annual gathering that Council Member Watson hosts during the months of June and November. The event centered around the pediatric resident’s advocacy priorities. Guest speaker Davion Percy, Vice President- Community Relations & Public Policy at Luminis Health, shared valuable information on advocacy education initiatives in Prince George’s County. Dr. Danielle G. Dooley, Medical Director, Community Affairs & Population Health, CHAI, CNH, stated, “We all left so energized, hopeful, and inspired by the work you are doing to serve residents of Prince George’s County and beyond. And the pediatric residents were so excited to meet your whole team – it’s important for them to get out of the hospital and see how leaders in the community are changing the lives of citizens in our region.”
COUNCIL MEMBER BLEGAY WELCOMES TEGLOMA ORGANIZATION FROM SIERRA LEONE
 Council Member Wala Blegay (District 6) welcomed the Tegloma Organization from Sierra Leone to Prince George’s County. Tegloma is a self-help organization that promotes the culture of Sierra Leone, supporting its members with issues including health, education, micro-finance, and prevention of teenage pregnancy and early marriages.
