Hello Neighbors,
Last week, I was happy to host student leaders from each of the District 8 high schools for the first ever District 8 Youth Takeover at the County Council! Ten students from each of the 3 high schools, Crossland, Friendly, and Oxon Hill, had the opportunity to participate in a County Council meeting then be positioned as decision-makers challenged to come up with innovative policy solutions to issues the County Council is currently grappling with. They had the opportunity to see county offices, meet with Council Members, and pitch their ideas to help serve the County and respond to the most pressing policy issues the Council is debating.
Additionally, students engaged with State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy, Prince George's Police Chief Malik Aziz, and Prince George's County Sheriff John Carr to discuss solutions to youth crime. You can watch the highlight from NBC4 here.
Thank you to our student leaders, advisors, and staff who made this event possible!

Legislative Updates
Another legislative win in the books for responsible and community-supported development. During last Tuesday's County Council Meeting, we successfully passed my bill CB-011-2023 An Ordinance Concerning Consolidated Storage for the purpose of prohibiting consolidated storage from being built in certain areas of Prince George's County. We need to ensure that the development taking place in our district and in our County supports the residents who live there and enhances the quality of life. Thank you to those who advocated for this important piece of legislation!
District 8 in the Community
Last week, I had the opportunity to meet with Minority Business Leaders from District 8. We discussed ways to support their businesses and improve the District overall. Thank you to the business leaders who joined us for their leadership and contribution to our community!
Earlier this month, I attended the Prince George's Business Round Table at The First Baptist Church of Glenarden. I loved the opportunity to connect with business leaders in the County and discuss ways to continue to support minority-owned businesses.
