Hello Neighbors,

After months of hard work and collaboration with community members and colleagues, I am excited to share that the Prince George's County Council voted unanimously to pass CR-115-2022, A Resolution Concerning Local Impact Grant Funds Multiyear Plan. As part of the agreement to build MGM, state law requires a certain portion of gaming tax revenue to be invested in the local community annually. The plan outlines how over $10 million in funding will be allocated to support the local community in the defined 6-mile radius surrounding MGM.

Some highlights from the plan include: 

• Mentoring, academic support, and wraparound services at every middle and high school in the impact area to support literacy, positive decision-making, and engagement in school with established community partners

• Free tutoring services from the Prince George's Memorial Library System at 20 elementary schools to promote literacy

• Free tuition at Prince George's Community College for residents of all ages and expanded resources of the Financial Empowerment Center to build credit scores and promote financial literacy

• Fully funded scholarships for high school students and the Crossland Career Academy
• Establishment of a Youth and Community Development Division to support enriching after-school activities & community programs
• Additional funding to address litter concerns and contribute to beautification efforts

The passage of this spending plan meaningfully invests in our community through programs for youth, seniors, and residents of all ages. Stay connected to learn more about how you can take advantage of these programs!
