Hello Neighbors,
While the Council has been on recess, our office remains hard at work in the community listening to constituent concerns and responding to the pressing needs in District 8. I am so thankful to work in partnership with our community leaders, civic association presidents, religious leaders, engaged neighbors, and advocates. Together we can ensure District 8 is a place where people can experience a high quality of life and raise a family. I've thoroughly enjoyed attending all the community events this summer! As we get ready for back to school and the fall, I look forward to continuing our collaboration in service to the community.
In service,

District 8 in the Community
We are excited to see litter pickup teams out in the district working on cleaning up our neighborhoods! Thank you to the workers who are working hard in the summer heat to ensure District 8 is clean and beautiful! We have more green teams and beautification efforts scheduled to continue through the fall.
For the last week, I was out with the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 689 advocating for fair compensation and benefits for MetroAccess drivers and transit workers. These paratransit drivers, utility workers, dispatchers, maintenance workers, and road supervisors provide a valuable service to some of our most vulnerable neighbors who need help getting around. I am pleased to report back that ATU has successfully negotiated a new contract! Congratulations to all those who fought every day to secure substantial wage increases and improved benefits.
I had a lot of fun as the honorary Ring Master at the UniverSoul Circus! It was great to see so many families out at the National Harbor for a night of tricks, stunts, and performances. Be sure to check out the UniverSoul Circus while they are in town!
