COUNTY EXECUTIVE ALSOBROOKS APPOINTS NEW BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBER TO VACANT SEAT
LARGO, MD –County Executive Angela Alsobrooks announced today the appointment of Ms. Madeline LaSalle to the vacant Prince George’s County District 8 School Board position. Ms. LaSalle replaces former Board of Education member Edward Burroughs and will serve out the remainder of Burroughs’ current term, which runs until December 2024.
“We are so proud to welcome Ms. LaSalle to the Prince George’s County Board of Education,” says Alsobrooks. “We remain heavily invested in the education of our children, and we are excited to have Ms. LaSalle join us in our efforts to continue to move our school system forward. Our goal is to ensure that our children can grow and thrive for years to come, and we believe that her experience in both education and social work, along with her passion for children, will make her a great addition to our Board.”
Ms. LaSalle is an award-winning educator and Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She is known as an unwavering advocate for educational equity and a successful results-based facilitator who partners with organizations to close opportunity gaps for students. Ms. LaSalle has dedicated her career to social equity, advocacy, community organizing and the elimination of the achievement gap among underserved populations.
Ms. LaSalle is a 2011 fellow of the National Hispana Leadership Institute, the Center for Creative Leadership, and the Harvard JFK School of Government Leadership Consortium. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Master of Social Work from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College in New York City, as well as an Education Specialist Degree and Education Leadership and Administration Certificate from George Washington University’s School of Education in Washington, D.C.
Ms. LaSalle is also the founder and current chair of the board for Latinas Leading Tomorrow, a non-profit that serves young Latinas in middle and high school in three key core areas: CORE (Creating Opportunities to Reach Excellence), ELITE High School Academy (Exemplifying Leadership in a Team Environment), and Latina Labs (STEM/STEAM mentoring).
Ms. LaSalle currently works for Arlington Public Schools in Virginia as the Coordinator of the Academic Academy, an alternative program serving students within a trauma sensitive framework. As a first-generation college graduate, Ms. LaSalle’s passion includes social justice work, trauma-informed care and restorative practices. She enjoys facilitating personal growth seminars, college and career coaching, and developing leadership programs for youth.

2022 SPECIAL GENERAL ELECTION - Council District 8
The Special General Election was Tuesday, February 1, 2022.
County Council District 8 Special General Election, Mail-In Ballot Canvass:
The Prince George’s County Board of Elections will begin canvassing mail-in/provisional ballots on the following dates/times:
- 1st Mail-In Ballot Canvass - 10:00am on Thursday, February 3, 2022. The mail-in ballot canvass is expected to continue through Saturday, February 5, 2022.
- Provisional Ballot Canvass – 10:00am on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 and is expected to continue through Friday, February 11, 2022.
- 2nd Mail-In Ballot Canvass – 10:00am on Friday, February 11, 2022. Any overseas and/or domestic ballots that were postmarked by Election Day, February 1, 2022 and meet the other requirements but were delivered by the post office to the Board of Elections after the 1st canvass will be counted.
All Canvasses will be conducted at the Board of Elections Training Center located at 1100 Mercantile Lane, Suite 160, Largo, MD 20774.In an effort to prevent the Board of Elections’ staff and ballot canvassers from contracting COVID-19, The Board of Elections will allow each candidate and their respective representatives to observe the canvass process (see above). All observers must wear K95 masks that will be provided by The Board of Elections. All others can view the process by live-streaming.

District 8 includes the constituent areas of Andrews Air Force Base, Camp Springs, Clinton, Forest Heights, Fort Washington, Glass Manor, Marlow Heights, Oxon Hill, and Temple Hills.
Adult sized KN95 masks are now available at multiple locations countywide, while supplies last. KN95 masks are free and residents must show proof of County residency. Residents are eligible to receive 2 KN95 masks per person present. For a complete list of locations, Click Here

District 8 hosted its first virtual meeting in the county, on March 25, 2021, a Charrette focusing on the Henson Creek Village Area Study. We want to thank the District 8 constituents who participated, were actively engaged during the process, and completed a survey sharing their thoughts and desires for our community. Your voices matter and are valued. Thank you again for being an integral part of this initiative to enhance our District, making it more healthy and vibrant!
