Greetings District 8 Residents,
Thank you to Bishop Lanier C. Twyman Sr., Senior Pastor, St. Stephen Baptist Church (SSBC) and Kareen Campbell, Founder, The International Council of Women in Law Enforcement (ICWLE), for hosting their appreciation service for our “First Responders”, law enforcement officers, firefighters and community leaders who have sacrificed to serve our nation.
Process in Place to Fill District 8 Vacancy
The Prince George’s County Council, on Monday, November 15, 2021, adopted
CR-135-2021, declaring a vacancy on the County Council created by the November 8, 2021, resignation of District 8 Council Member Monique Anderson-Walker.
CR-135-2021 establishes dates for conducting the Special Primary Election and the Special Election to fill the Council vacancy and sets the Certification of Candidacy deadline.
Special Primary Election
The Special Primary Election has been scheduled for Tuesday, January 4, 2022, 7am-8pm.
Special Primary Election Early Voting will be conducted on December 27-December 30, 2021 and January 2-3, 2022, (10am-8pm each day and 12pm-6pm on Sunday, January 2, 2022).
Special General Election
The Special General Election will be held on Tuesday, February 1,2022, 7am-8pm.
Special General Election Early Voting will be conducted on January 26-January 31, 2022, (10am-8pm each day and 12pm-6pm on Sunday, January 30, 2022).
Certificate of Candidacy must be filed with the Board of Elections by Tuesday, December 7, 2021.
Pursuant to County Charter Section 309, a Special Election must be held to fill a vacancy on the Council, in this case, defined as the resignation of a Council Member, occurring within the first three years of a term. Section 2-104 of the County Code provides that when there is a vacancy in the office of a Council Member during the first three years of a term, the Council, within seven days, shall adopt a Resolution directing that a special primary election and a special election by the registered voters of the Council District concerned, be held to fill the vacancy.

District 8 faith-based and community organizations distributed 4,506 Thanksgiving baskets to families for the holiday. Baskets were distributed at the District IV and District VII Police Stations and baskets were delivered. We also hosted a "Food Drive" for three District 8 food pantries at the District VII Police Station. We appreciate our partners and are grateful to everyone who played a role in bringing holiday blessings and cheer to families in District Gr8!
Employ Prince George’s awarded over $113,000 in Rapid Re-Employment Grants to businesses who hired unemployed Prince George’s County residents. Faith 2 Felicity, Maria Amadeaus (ZAFF), Maverick Realty, Radenn Media Group and Shandenjuan Services were the District 8 businesses that were awarded Rapid Re-Employment Grants.
Prince George's County Health Connect Enrollment Program has open Enrollment for private coverage with huge discounts starting on Nov 1, 2021 thru Jan 15, 2022 for plan year 2022.

The County’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program will stop accepting new applications on Wednesday, December 15 at 3:00 PM. The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) will continue to review and process remaining applications. County Executive Alsobrooks is hosting a COVID-19 Vaccine Tele-Town Hall on Tuesday, December 7 at 6:00 PM. County health officials will provide updates on vaccines for children 5-11 and booster shots for adults, as well as answer questions.

As the County continues its efforts in preventing the spread of COVID-19, the Department of Public Works & Transportation, the Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement (DPIE) and the Department of the Environment (DoE) have decided to conduct the annual Winter Community Partners’ Meeting virtually via the Zoom online platform on Thursday, December 9, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
