District 8 Neighbors and Friends,

Let's take time to celebrate and acknowledge our Teachers and Nurses in a special way this week! It is National Teacher Appreciation Week, May 4-8 and National Nurse Appreciation Week, May 6-12.  Now, I am certain you will agree with me that both of these professions should feel the appreciation we have for them daily, and especially during this pandemic crisis. I am grateful for the dedicated teachers in District 8 schools and appreciate the resiliency they have displayed during the transition to educate our youth via distance learning.  Dr. Monica Goldson continues to lead with a steady commitment and heartfelt concern for our young people and their families. 

Today, I was honored to provide special thanks to the nurses at Adventist HealthCare Fort Washington Medical Center. I thanked them for being courageous, skilled and empathetic frontline leaders in a time none of us have ever witnessed before. Did you know that nurses have been impressively ranked as the #1 most ethical and honest profession for 18 years? The District 8 office provides lunches to the entire medical staff twice a week at the Adventist HealthCare Fort Washington Medical Center. We appreciate their dedication in serving our community! 

So, will you join me by reaching out to teachers and nurses you know and thanking them for their remarkable contributions to our world? They are truly Heroes in their own right!

Delivering Hot Lunches to District 8 Essential Workers!

It was a rainy day but that did not deter our team from going door-to-door throughout the Sunrise Community in Fort Washington. Sunrise residents are predominantly senior citizens and those we ran into were proud to say they completed their Census and will be counted! A special thanks to long-time resident, Mr. Leroy Wise, who graciously escorted us throughout the neighborhood to bring awareness to the damaged sidewalks as a result of overgrown trees. This is a great example of how YOUR Census dollars can go toward fixing sidewalks, roads and addressing various types of infrastructure issues. The last day for high school seniors will remain Friday, May 15. The last day of school for other students is Tuesday, June 16. The last day for teachers is Thursday, June 18.
