Welcome to the November 2019 Thanksgiving edition of the 4th District Legislative Email Newsletter. As we recognized the service and sacrifice of our veterans this month and prepare for the approaching Thanksgiving holiday, the County Council has completed our 2019 session.
Please find below some highlights and updates as well as some upcoming events in the County and the 4th Council District as we enter the holiday season.

Last Meeting of 2019 Legislative Year
On November 19th the County Council completed our 2019 Legislative Year with the passage of several pieces of legislation. I appreciated being Chair of the Council this past year and the work of the Council, particularly our growing relationship with County Executive Angela D. Alsobrooks. County Executive Alsobrooks Kicks Off Community Conversations in District 4
I was pleased to join Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks for her Community Conversation on October 30th at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt to unveil her Proud Priorities, Proud Results focusing on six Policy Focus Areas, including: Education, Youth Development, Quality of Life Supported by High Performance Government, Economic Development, Healthy Communities and Safe Neighborhoods.

Welcome District 4's Newly Elected Mayors and City Council Members
 Congratulations to those who were successful in Bowie and Greenbelt city elections held on November 5th. We welcome two new Mayors, Tim Adams in Bowie and Colin Byrd in Greenbelt, both historic accomplishments. We also bid farewell and thank you to Bowie Mayor Fred Robinson and Council Members Issac "Ike" Trouth and James Marcos. I look forward to our continued work on behalf of the residents in both cities, the 4th Council District and the County.

Washington Suburban Transit Commission County Public Forum
 The Washington Suburban Transit Commission (WSTC), on which I represent the County Council, hosted its annual Prince County Public Forum on November 12th in Riverdale Park. The meeting included presentations and updates on WMATA Metro, Maryland MARC rail and bus services, County transportation and transit services and a status on the Purple Line construction.
District 4 Veterans Appreciation Breakfast
On November 2nd, I hosted my bi-annual 4th District Veterans Appreciation Breakfast and Listening Session at the American Legion Post 66 in Bowie. I want to thank Congressman Anthony Brown, County Veterans Affairs Officer, Dr. James Dula, and members of the Prince George’s County Veterans Commission for attending and providing information and remarks.

County Council and DHCD Continue Work on Implementation of Housing Opportunities for All Strategies
 The County Council and Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) are leading the Housing Opportunities for All (HOFA) Workgroup meetings, discussing potential policies for preserving and increasing housing opportunities in the County, including the County’s Housing Investment Trust Fund (HITF) and the opportunity for inclusionary zoning, land-banking and the preservation of affordable housing.
The HOFA Workgroup conducted a briefing with House Majority Leader Congressman Steny Hoyer on federal opportunities to support the work of the County. To view photos, please click here.

Maryland Department of Transportation County Road Show
On November 1st the County Council hosted the annual Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and "Road Show", which highlights State and County's transit and transportation priorities for the State's 6-Year Consolidated Transportation Plan (CTP). Council Members, State Representative and the public raised issues and concerns, including Metro, Managed Toll Lanes, Maglev and pedestrian safety, litter and maintenance issues on state roads in the County, with Secretary Pete Rahn and MDOT representatives. Glenn Dale Hospital Site Meeting
We had a great turnout on October 17th for the Historic Glenn Dale Hospital Site Public Meeting sponsored by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, along with Council Members Dannielle Glaros, Council Member Jolene Ivey and myself, at the Glenn Dale Community Center.
The Glenn Dale Hospital Historic District, located in Glenn Dale, Maryland, is a 207-acre property with 25 structures and woodlands. The Alexander Company was selected to conduct a detailed assessment of the site and buildings, develop viable market strategies for the existing structures and produce a detailed implementation plan.

UMD Intern for the Day
On November 14th, Ms. Katherine “Katie” Pistner participated in the University of Maryland’s Intern for a Day program at the Prince George’s County Council. Katie, a freshmen from Howard County, is a government and politics major at the University of Maryland. She recently joined the University of Maryland Student Government Association Civics and Government Affairs Committee. The University of Maryland’s Intern for a Day connects undergraduate students with alumni, parents, employers and community partners for a one day internship/shadowing experience.

Capital Region Health Hospital Tour

Thank you to UMMS-Capital Region Health Interim President Joseph Wright and Clark Construction staff for the walk-thru of the 206 beds; approx. 600,000 square foot new hospital expected to open in 2021 in Largo. Food & Friends
On Monday, November 25th Council Chair Turner and the District 4 Team volunteered at Food & Friends to assist in their annual Thanksgiving holiday meal preparation. To assist and support Food & Friends go to their website. Former District 4 member, Jarryd Hawkins, is pictured with the team.

Scholarship Opportunity
 The Prince George's County Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., in association with the Delta Foundation (formerly known as the Prince George's County Delta Alumnae Foundation) offers an annual college scholarship program to help further higher education among students who are Prince George's County residents.
