THIS WEEK WITH THE COUNTY COUNCIL

COUNCIL CONVENES TUESDAY; VOTES TO OVERRIDE EXECUTIVE VETO

The County Council met Tuesday to consider CR-069-2018, a Resolution concerning a Revitalization Tax Credit, which was introduced and referred to the Council’s Public Safety and Fiscal Management Committee. The Council also voted 7-2, to override an Executive Veto of CB-006-2018, an Act concerning the School Facilities Surcharge.

COUNCIL MEETS AS BOARD OF HEALTH; BRIEFED ON COUNTY’S QUALITY OF LIFE INDEX; HOSPITAL FACILITIES; AND HEALTH NEEDS ASSESSMENT

Meeting in its role as the County’s Board of Health, Council Members received important briefings.  The Greater Prince George’s Business Roundtable presented its annual Prince George’s County Quality of Life Index. Leaders from the University of Maryland Laurel Regional Health and University of Maryland Capital Region Health provided hospital campus updates.  Board of Health consultant, Joseph L. Wright, MD, MPH, briefed Council Members on the scope of work status for the County’s Health Needs Assessment. Please visit the Board of Health online to review presentations.

COUNCIL’S HEALTH, EDUCATION AND HUMAN SERVICES COMMITTEE HOLDS FINAL MEETING

The Health, Education and Human Services Committee (HEHS), chaired by Council Member Mary Lehman, held its final meeting of the 2018 Legislative Year on Wednesday.  HEHS received a briefing update on the transfer of the Family Crisis Center to Community Crisis Services, Inc.

COUNCIL RULES AND GENERAL ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE DISCUSSES UPCOMING GENERAL ASSEMBLY SESSION

The Rules and General Assembly Committee, chaired by Council Vice-Chair Todd Turner, received a briefing on Tuesday on the interim activity of the Maryland General Assembly, and discussed local bills being considered for Council support during the 2019 General Assembly Session.  The committee was also briefed on 2019 Maryland Association of Counties legislative initiatives.

Councilwoman Mary A. Lehman, Prince George's County Council District 1, partnered with High Point High School on Wednesday, October 3, to host a College and Career Fair at High Point High School in Beltsville.

On Thursday, the County Council, together with MGM National Harbor, presented a Procurement Opportunity Outreach session to provide subcontractors and vendors with information on numerous procurement opportunities associated with MGM National Harbor.
