COUNTY COUNCIL HOLDS DISTRICT COUNCIL SESSION
The County Council began the week,
Monday, September 24, sitting as the District Council to hear several zoning
cases. The District Council is granted
authority to act on zoning matters by the State of Maryland Regional District
Act, known as Article 28 of the Maryland Annotated Code.

COUNCIL HOSTS ‘MEET AND GREET’ WITH COUNTY SCHOOLS INTERIM CEO, DR. MONICA GOLDSON
Monday afternoon, following
District Council session, Council Members welcomed Prince George’s County
Public Schools Interim Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Monica Goldson and members
of her senior staff, for an informal ‘Meet and Greet’ luncheon. Council Members and Dr. Goldson engaged in a
productive discussion about shared priorities for the 2018-2019 school year,
and discussed ways to work together to strengthen the County’s school system.
COUNCIL CONSIDERS LEGISLATION; MOVES ZONING ORDINANCE REWRITE FORWARD
The County Council met
Tuesday to consider several pieces of legislation, including those focusing on
labor contracts, zoning and noise control.
Additionally, CB-99-2018, legislation establishing a donor campaign
financing program funded through the County Budget, was introduced and
scheduled for a public hearing on October 23, 2018. Meeting as Committee of the Whole, the
Council also considered Zoning Ordinance Rewrite legislation CB-65, and
amendments to CB-13, which passed favorably.

TAX CREDIT REFORM COMMISSION CONVENES
The
2018 Tax Credit Reform Commission heard directly from residents on the County’s
proposed tax credits during a public hearing held Wednesday, September 12, at
Prince George’s Community College. The Tax Credit Reform Commission,
established by Council Resolution CR-9-2018, is charged with addressing the
effectiveness, utilization and efficacy of tax credits imposed in the County
and recommending reform of the tax credit policy based on the review and
deliberations of the commission. For

PUBLIC UTILITY TASK FORCE CONVENES
The Prince George’s County Council Public Utility Task Force, established by Council Resolution 87-2017, to further examine the process by which regulated public utilities locate on land situated in close proximity to certain residential, educational, and institutional uses in Prince George's County, met Friday. The Public Utility Task Force is charged with studying electric public utility location practices and procedures to evaluate current practices related to the location or regulated public utility uses in Prince George’s County, and make policy recommendations. Friday’s meeting included a discussion of Pepco’s plants for future sites in the County, and factors used for determining the location of substations.

CHAIR GLAROS CELEBRATES NEW CARROLLTON BRANCH LIBRARY GRAND REOPENING
Council Chair Glaros joined County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, City of New Carrollton Mayor Duane Rosenberg, PGCMLS Interim Executive Directors Michael Gannon and Michelle Hamiel, and community stakeholders to celebrate the grand reopening of the New Carrollton Library. The state-of-the-art facility now boasts 66 computers for public use, 3D printer, interactive children’s room featuring a 270-gallon salt water aquarium, meeting space, study rooms, and many more welcoming features.
