BUSY TUESDAY: COUNCIL CONVENES FINAL
MEETING BEFORE AUGUST RECESS
Tuesday was the final Council session
prior to the August recess and it was a busy day! The Council met as District Council on zoning
matters; the County Council on legislative matters; and as the Committee of the
Whole. More than a dozen bills and resolutions were presented and referred to the
appropriate committees for consideration when the Council reconvenes in
September. Eight additional bills went to Introduction and are scheduled for public
hearings in September. Public hearings
for 21 additional bills and resolutions were held Tuesday. Legislative measures under consideration
included several bond and Charter Amendment questions to appear before voters
on the November 2018 General Election ballot. The Council also adopted CB-12-2018, strengthening
business recycling in the County, and CB-29-2018, establishing a Commercial
Property Assessed Clean Energy Program, to allow commercial property owners to
access financing for certain energy efficient and clean energy improvements.

COUNCIL PASSES LEGISLATION
ADDRESSING COMMITTEE STRUCTURE FOR NEW 11-MEMBER COUNCIL
The
Prince George’s County Council, during session on Tuesday, voted to amend its
Rules of Procedure allowing for a restructuring of the Council’s standing
committees. The new committee structure
accommodates the expansion of the legislative body from nine to eleven
members. The legislation also revises
the number of members required to override an Executive Veto

COUNCIL APPROVES APPOINTMENTS TO OFFICE OF ETHICS AND
ACCOUNTABILITY AND AGRICULTURAL RESOURCES ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR PRINCE
GEORGE’S COUNTY
The Council approved the
reappointment of Robin Barnes-Shell, Esq., to serve as the Executive Director
of the Office of Ethics and Accountability for Prince George’s County. The
Council also approved the appointment of the following individuals to the
Agricultural Resources Advisory Committee for Prince George’s County: Steven E. Darcey, Daniel A. Donohue, Sarah E.
Fulton-Smith, Homer Lovelace, Bradley P. Miller, Margaret Morgan-Hubbard,
Jo-Ann Romano, Kimberly A. Rush-Lynch, and Robert Yates Clagett. The Council is
grateful to each of them, and all who serve on County boards and commissions.
