COUNCIL CONVENES A BUSY SESSION BEFORE THE FOURTH OF JULY
HOLIDAY
On Monday morning, July 2, the
County Council, sitting as the District Council reviewed zoning matters in the
morning. Later in the afternoon, both
the Committee of the Whole and the County Council met to consider legislation.
Among the many action items, the Council adopted CR-047-2018, a resolution to establish a
Procurement Advisory Group to work with the County to meet or exceed the goals outlined
in CB-115-2017 and
to provide advice on any proposed changes being considered by the County to
procurement laws as set forth in Subtitle 10-A, as well as procurement regulations promulgated by
Prince George’s County. The Procurement Advisory Group also may recommend
changes to the County’s procurement laws, regulations, and procedures for
consideration. The Council also
introduced CB-012-2018,
to increase recycling at commercial establishments, including hotels, motels
and gas stations and CB-029-2018, establishing
a Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy Program (C-PACE). The Council also introduced several proposed Bond
measures and Charter Amendments to be considered by voters on the November
General Election ballot. These bills are
now subject to Public Hearing.

COUNCIL WELCOMES KENYAN COUNTY GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL ANGELA
KAGUNYI!
Council Members were pleased to
host a visit from Angela Kagunyi, Acting Deputy Clerk and Director of
Legislative and Procedural Services in Kiambu County, Kenya, on Monday. Kiambu County, Kenya has a population of two
million residents, and is represented by a 96-member Council! Angela Kagunyi’s visit to Prince George’s
County is part of an effort to observe and learn best practices for local
government operations. The Council
especially appreciates the time Council Administrator Robert Williams and Clerk
of the Council Redis Floyd, as well as other administrative staff members, devoted
to speak with Angela Kagunyi and field questions. We look forward to a return visit!

COUNCIL’S SUMMER INTERNS GET
TO WORK
Chair Glaros was pleased to offer
remarks at the June 25th orientation session at Charles Flowers High School,
for County youth participating in the Youth@Work/Summer Youth Enrichment Program. This
week, Districts 3, 4 and 9 welcomed the program’s young workers to their
respective Council offices for the next five weeks. This program provides an
opportunity for young people across the County to participate in career
development, life skills training and summer employment opportunities. This
year more than 3,000 youths between the ages of 15 and 19 are employed by government,
non-profit and faith-based organizations, and businesses in the County. More
than one-third of these students participated in job readiness and life skills
training sessions during the school year through a partnership with Prince
George’s Community College and Prince George’s County Public Schools. To learn more about signing up for next

UPCOMING WORK SESSION MEETING NEXT WEEK
The Prince George’s County Council will host a Committee of the Whole Work Session on the Zoning Ordinance Rewrite Legislation. The second of three meetings will be Tuesday, July 10th, 7:00 p.m. in the First Floor Hearing Room of the County Administration Building, 14741 Governor Oden Bowie Drive, Upper Marlboro.
