New Prince George’s County Transit Buses Enhance Safety, Connectivity and Rider Experience

Largo, MD – The Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) obtained 20 new transit buses from Gillig and ENC, national companies that supply transit vehicles to agencies in the greater Washington, DC area.  These buses replace aging vehicles in the County’s transit system, “TheBus.”  The vehicles offer innovative amenities, such as USB charging, 24-inch passenger information displays, Wi-Fi and security cameras.

“Adding these new buses to our fleet improves our transportation services by addressing inconveniences associated with aging vehicles and offers our passengers the latest technology,” said Terry Bellamy, Director of the Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation.

With nearly 2 million passengers per year, these purchases fulfill the Department’s plan to modernize the fleet and offer residents safe, efficient and reliable transit services.  These buses were originally ordered in July 2019, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, delivery was delayed.

As a reminder, everyone who rides "TheBus" and any mode of public transportation in Prince George’s County is required to wear face coverings during their trip to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Fare collection on "TheBus" remains suspended.
