Maryland STEM Festival

STEMFestival

The Maryland STEM Festival is an annual celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.  Last November, over 40,000 Marylanders attended nearly 500 STEM focused events during the 10-day Festival.  The Festival’s mission is to encourage students of all ages, regardless of their background or experience, to take a greater interest in STEM with the hope they will pursue a STEM job or career.  Maryland is one the few states in the Nation to have a state-wide STEM or Science Festival.  Every County and Baltimore City participate in the 2016 Festival making it one of the few state-wide festivals in Maryland.  Support and interest in the Festival continue to grow.  The 2015 Festival consisted of 330 events, the 2016 Festival had nearly 500 events.  The Festival organizers expect similar growth for this year.

This year, the Festival runs from October 31st through November 12th and is spotlighting Agriculture and Food Production  The expected 500 plus events will include the Ag and STEM Summit, African American STEM Awareness Day, Hispanic STEM Awareness Day, Night of Cyber, Blue Collar STEM Night and Sports and STEM Expo.  Most of the events are free, open to the public, family oriented and fun.   Some of the events are geared for specific ages.  More information can be found at their website, www.marylandstemfestival.org, and by contacting Phil Rogofsky, Director, at mdstemfest@gmail.com.

Calling all Educational Organizations and Teachers in the DMV!

Join us on Oct. 7 in Potomac, MD for our first ever School Ideas Drive.  This community-building event enables educators to learn about and connect with local organizations that offer exciting new resources and opportunities for teachers and students. Throughout the day we will brainstorm ways to engage students in the learning process as we explore the challenge "How might we work together to connect our classrooms and communities so that students have access to an array of  ideas and resources that go beyond the classroom?" Using aspects of design thinking and various collaboration techniques we will uncover how we might make synergies with local organizations that inspire real world application and improve teaching and learning.

If you'd like to learn more please go to our website or our eventbrite page. Organizations interested in showcasing their work should please email directly at michelle.blanchet@educatorslab.io to learn more.
