Dear Subscriber,
Although the Maryland Port Administration is not directly involved in negotiations, we are closely monitoring and encouraging both management (United States Maritime Alliance) and the International Longshoremen’s Association to continue to talk and progress toward an agreement. We implore both sides to come together and negotiate an agreement that properly compensates the men and women of the ILA while maintaining cost effective and efficient cargo flows. We have communicated to the ILA in Baltimore that we will provide a safe area for their members to peacefully gather outside of our marine terminals if necessary. Depending on if there is a work stoppage and how long it might last, it could impact our operations. The ILA has assured us that cruise operations and military cargo will not be affected if there is a work stoppage.
The port industry is one of our nation’s leading job generators and is critically important to our national supply chain. We remain hopeful that an agreement will be reached very soon.
