Dear Port of Baltimore Community,

I’m very pleased today to announce the hiring of Kathleen Pickett as the Maryland Port Administration’s new director of security.  Kathleen comes to us from the U.S. Capitol Police where she served as a captain and hazardous incident response division commander since 2015.  In this role, Kathleen led her unit’s heroic response to the January 6, 2021 insurrection event.  In her position, Kathleen also oversaw department budgets and fostered relationships with external partners including the Supreme Court, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the Washington, DC Fire Department.

Kathleen was a member of the Capitol Police since 2002 and progressed from a private first class to a sergeant squad leader and then to a lieutenant section commander before taking the reins as captain.  Prior to the Capitol Police, she served six years as a correctional officer and then sergeant for the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center.  She began her career as a military police officer in the U.S. Air Force.

Kathleen has several security certifications that will benefit the MPA and the Port of Baltimore including counterterrorism, hazardous materials, active shooter/mass casualty, and narcotics.  She is a recipient of a Congressional Gold Medal, Capitol Police Achievement Medal, and six commendation awards.  Her office is located at our Dunmar building at Dundalk Marine Terminal but you will be seeing her a lot throughout the Port.

Kathleen can be reached at kpickett1@marylandports.com and (410) 633-1153.  Please join me in welcoming her to the MPA.

Sincerely,

Brian Miller

MPA Interim Acting Executive Director
