Dear Subscriber,
As you are aware, our region today is under a Code Red air quality alert because of haze and smoke from recent wildfires in Canada. Environmental experts are predicting that our area will have unhealthy air quality levels for the next 24 to 48 hours.
The Port of Baltimore is operating business as usual and with that we have worked with our International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) to communicate to their workforce and to our Maryland Port Administration terminal personnel that they should take appropriate precautions. There is nothing more important than your health and safety. Please take all necessary precautions if you need to be outside. If you have any respiratory issues, consider wearing a mask while outdoors. Please also drink plenty of water and keep yourselves properly hydrated.
Here are some other good tips for today and other poor air quality days:
- Wear appropriate masks/face coverings
- Limit driving and consolidate trips
- Use mass transit or telework
- Reduce car idling and shut off your car’s engine when not in use
- Refuel your vehicles after dusk
- Avoid using aerosol products
These and other tips can be found on the Maryland Department of the Environment’s website https://mde.maryland.gov/Pages/index.aspx
