Dear Subscriber,
From Maryland Port Administration-Port of Baltimore Executive Director William P. Doyle:
In the event collective bargaining negotiations between freight rail companies known as the National Carriers’ Conference Committee (NCCC) and the coalitions of rail labor unions do not reach an agreement this week, there could be disruptions to some of the rail cargo in and out of the Port of Baltimore. The expiration date for the extended collective bargaining agreement is 12:01 am on Friday, September 16, 2022. We have been in communication with our freight rail lines’ representatives. Baltimore’s two Class I railroads, CSX and Norfolk Southern, began embargoing certain shipments of hazmat to ensure that materials are not left unattended, and crew left stranded in the event of a strike or lockout. We are monitoring the negotiations closely and we will provide updates as they become available.
