Montgomery County Recreation Offers Safe, Fun Halloween Activities
Montgomery County Recreation is offering the following safe, fun-filled Halloween activities for children and teens during the Halloween season. All activities are free, unless otherwise noted:
• October 11, 17, 18, 24 and 25, 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. Haunted Forest -- SCARY! Damascus Community Recreation Center, 25520 Oak Dr. Not for the squeamish, but perfect for those looking for a good Halloween scare. Parents must accompany children under 12 years; not recommended for children eight and younger. Individuals with adverse effects to strobe lights, smoke machines, sudden noises, extreme darkness or the sight of blood are advised not to attend. An outdoor event; closed-toed footwear recommended. Community members are invited to get involved by volunteering to act or work behind the scenes. Student Service Learning (SSL) hours are available. • October 17, 6 - 8:30 p.m. Fall Harvest Fest. Wheaton Community Recreation Center, 11711 Georgia Ave. All ages. Free with canned food donation. 240-777-8057.
• October 24, 7 p.m. Halloween Haunted House. Long Branch Community Recreation Center, 8700 Piney Branch Rd., Silver Spring. For elementary school-aged children accompanied by an adult. 240-777-6965.
• October 25, noon - 2 p.m. Halloween Extravaganza. East County Community Recreation Center, 3310 Gateshead Manor Way, Silver Spring. K- 5th grade. Games, prizes, face painting, costume contest, crafts, etc. 240-777-8090.
• October 25, 7 – 10 p.m. Therapeutic Recreation Ghoul’s Gala. Holiday Park Senior Center, 3950 Ferrara Dr., Wheaton. Come in costume and enjoy a deejay, dancing, light refreshments. $8 pre-registered; $10 at the door. Ages 15 & up with disabilities. 240-777-4999.
• October 29, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. Grand Halloween Party. Holiday Park, 3950 Ferrara Dr., Wheaton. Grandparents and grandchildren in costumes welcome. Games and treats included. 240-777-4999.
• October 29, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Pre-Halloween Dance Party. Holiday Park Senior Center, 3950 Ferrara Dr., Wheaton. Adults 55 & older. Come in costume. Fee: $5 at the door; $3 with Holiday Park Seniors, Inc. (HPSI) card. 240-777-4999.
• October 31, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Halloween Happening. Marilyn Praisner Community Recreation Center, 14906 Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville. Ages 12 and under. Includes games, crafts, deejay, dancing and treats. Families asked to donate unopened bags of individually wrapped candy. 240-777-4970.
• October 31, 6 – 9 p.m. Halloween Night. Good Hope Recreation Center, 14715 Good Hope Rd., Silver Spring. All ages welcome. Games, dancing, costume contest. 240-777-8055.
• October 31, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Family Costume Party. Upper County Community Recreation Center, 8201 Emory Grove Rd., Gaithersburg. Ages K - 5. Games, refreshments, candy bags, raffles, dancing, costume contest, etc. 240-777-8077.
