You would never know by these hot days and rainy afternoons that Fall is right around the corner, but coffee shops and stores around the country have already released their Pumpkin Spice everything. And while trends come, one thing remains true â the cheapest form of energy is the energy we donât use.
Our goal at Montgomery Energy Connection is to make sure you know the best ways to lower your utility costs and help keep your hard-earned money in your pockets. Did you know that there are some communities that pay more for energy? Electrify Equity, a new non-profit dedicated to ensuring equitable access to electrification and energy savings in underserved communities is hosting a monthly webinar titled, âEnergy Savings for Maryland Homeowners: Info Session.â Make sure you sign up to attend from the comfort of your home!
And while youâre making note of things this month, make sure you do the following things to help lower your energy costs.
Run, don't walk to your local library to check out a thermal camera!
Before the temperature drops, stop by your local library OR check out a thermal camera using their online platform. Thermal cameras allow you to inspect your home with infrared technology using your smartphone. You will be able to find insulation, heating and water problems around your home using the phone attachment with the FLIR ONE app. So, what are you waiting for?

Remember that water and electricity are connected
According to Energy.gov, âwater is used in all phases of energy production. Energy is required to extract, pump, and deliver water for use by humans, and to treat wastewater so it can be safely returned to the environment.â That is why it is important for residents to attend the 2026 H2O Summit which will be held on Tuesday, October 13th from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. at M-NCPPCâs Wheaton Headquarters, 2425 Reedie Dr. Wheaton, MD 20902. This yearâs theme, Catching it at the Source, focuses on the upstream actions and community partnerships that help keep our waterways clean. At the summit, youâll listen to talks from peers and professionals in the field, learn about new innovations and updates in watershed management, foster future collaboration and partnerships, and more! A finalized agenda is coming soon! Register at MontgomeryCountyMD.gov/H2OSummit
And if youâre looking for a way to use less energy in your home, email us your home address at Energy@MontgomeryCountyMD.gov and we will send you a water saving kit that includes a toilet tank bank, shower timer, and other goodies! Â
And no newsletter would be complete without reminding you of the following things:Â
