Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich to Sign Executive Order Pausing Data Center Development for Six Months

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will be joined by Councilmembers Will Jawando and Kristin Mink as he signs an executive order placing a six-month pause on the acceptance and processing of permit applications for new data center construction and development.  

Hyperscale data centers place significant demands on electrical infrastructure and water supplies. The executive order reflects County Executive Elrich’s commitment to protecting residents from potential grid strain, brownouts, and environmental impacts while still welcoming responsible innovation.
