Hello good people!
This Thanksgiving, my heart is full of immense gratitude for the achievements over the past seven years, the milestones we have reached together, and most of all, for the extraordinary people who have walked beside me. To my mentors, friends, colleagues, and supporters, thank you for your unwavering encouragement and confidence in me throughout all our work. To my extraordinary team, your tireless efforts and deep commitment to serving our County residents have been nothing short of inspiring. Above all, to my amazing family, your love and support have been my foundation throughout this journey, and I could not have done this without you.
While my time on the Council is coming to an end, my commitment to serving our community remains as strong as ever. I look forward to continuing this work in new and meaningful ways, guided by the same values and purpose that brought me here.
From a young age, my parents instilled in me the importance of finding the good in every person and every circumstance - a lesson that has been both a challenge and a guiding light in the world of politics. In times of division, we must strive to engage with those we disagree with, and we must have the courage to look inward and ask ourselves how we can grow before asking others to change.
The weight and responsibility of public service is often heavy, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. In those moments, I have grown to believe deeply in providence and in the quiet strength of community. To all the residents of Montgomery County, I thank you for bestowing this incredible and humbling honor on me. This county has been my lifelong home, and it is a truly special place. The good significantly outweighs the bad, and I truly believe that there is nothing wrong with Montgomery County that cannot be fixed by what is right with Montgomery County. My moral compass has always been to serve the common good, and I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together. From strengthening our social safety net, to launching the Office of Food Systems Resilience, to supporting our nonprofit partners and advancing equity, we have laid a foundation for a more just and compassionate future. There is still much work to be done, but I am proud of how far we've come.
Goodbye for now, good people - we will see each other again soon.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
With deep gratitude,
Gabe
