Celebrating 35 Years of the Americans with Disabilities Act
This July 26 marks the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) - a landmark civil rights law that opened doors and broke down barriers for millions of Americans. At Ride On, we are proud to honor this milestone and reaffirm our commitment to accessible public transportation for all.
Every Ride On bus is ADA-compliant, equipped with features like wheelchair ramps, priority seating and audio-visual stop announcements to ensure a safe and comfortable ride for passengers of all abilities.
We're also committed to making travel easier through specialized services:
-
Call-n-Ride provides discounted transportation for low-income seniors and people with disabilities, offering more flexibility and independence.
- Travel can be for any purpose within Montgomery County, and certain other areas for medical reasons.
- Monthly Subsidy Assistance is provided on a sliding fee scale. Applications for the program must include proof of Montgomery County residence, age, and household income.
-
Same Day Access (SDA) provides subsidized taxi service to MetroAccess participants who reside in Montgomery County and have a current Metro Access Identification Card.
- There are no income restrictions for SDA. Participants can get “same day” taxi service; MetroAccess trips must be scheduled at least one day in advance of the desired travel date.
- SDA provides up to $60 worth of taxi rides per month (50% subsidy)
-
Medicaid Transportation provides a “safety net” transportation system to medical services for Montgomery County Medicaid clients with no other means of transportation or whose medical or physical needs prevent them from using such available transportation.
- Assures services to meet the non-emergency transportation needs of Medical Assistance recipients.
- Utilizes taxicabs, wheelchair vans, and non-emergency ambulance transport vendors
-
Our new electronic paper (ePaper) real-time information screens at high ridership bus stops offer high-contrast, glare-free displays, making it easier for all riders - including those with vision impairments - to access real-time bus arrival information. Each device also includes a text-to-speech button for audio updates on bus arrivals, schedule, and service updates in multiple languages.
We celebrate the progress made and recognize there is always more work to do. Thank you for riding with us as we continue building a more inclusive community - one ride at a time.
