Calendar year 2024 energy benchmarking reports were due to DEP on June 2. To date over 80% of covered buildings have reported data. If you have not yet submitted your report or filed an extension, please be sure to do so as soon as possible. DEP is preparing notice of violation letters for delinquent reporters.
Already reported? A few reminders to help you maximize your results:
-
Back-up your data: It's always a good idea to download and backup data for your building or portfolio after reporting each year.
-
Check your performance: See if 2024 brought you closer or further away from your building's interim and final performance standard using the Performance Requirements Look-Up Tool.
-
See how your 2024 performance compares to others: Benchmarking compliance status and performance data is available online for all covered buildings on the Montgomery County Building Energy Performance Map.
The Clean Buildings Hub/Maryland Energy Administration has issued a Request for Information for a forthcoming BEPS Technical Assistance Program. Once launched (Q2 of 2026 anticipated), this program will provide tailored assistance to certain buildings subject to the State BEPS to help them understand the steps they need to take to get into compliance.
The RFI asks for feedback on topics such as the types of buildings to prioritize first, the level of support the State should provide, and how this program can be complementary or additive to existing technical assistance offerings.
The Hub kindly requests that responses to this RFI be submitted via this form by July 11, 2025 at 5 PM.

The Institute for Market Transformation (IMT) announced the 2025 Green Lease Leaders. Launched in 2014, Green Lease Leaders sets standards for what constitutes a green lease, while recognizing landlords, tenants, and teams who modernize their leases to spur collaborative action on energy and water efficiency, cost-savings, air quality improvement, and sustainability in buildings.
Green leasing is a helpful tool to ensure landlords and tenants are working together to access utility data, benchmark and report energy use, and drive towards energy efficient operations and equipment to meet building energy performance standards.
Learn more about the Green Lease Leaders program or audit your lease to see how it stacks up.
