On Thursday, May 22nd, the Montgomery County Council reached an agreement on the County’s $7.6 billion Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Operating Budget and the $6 billion amended FY25-30 Capital Improvements Program (CIP).
For the most detailed explanation of our vote, please review the Council’s press release that outlines all the highlights of the operating budget and CIP. You can also watch a recording of our Council session on the Council YouTube channel and review our staff packet for the session on the Council website.
As I said during my remarks on Thursday, May 15th, I am particularly proud that we expanded the Department of Recreation’s Excel Beyond the Bell program to Waters Landing Elementary School, and am glad that we were able to keep the much anticipated Clarksburg Library project on track. We also provided funding for BlackRock Center for the Arts, provided funding for a proposed solution to reopen White’s Ferry, and will be bringing the highly effective Drone as First Responder program to Germantown.
This is only a snapshot of the important projects we funded in this year’s budget, so please check out my full statement from the May 15th Council session for more priorities that we funded this year. You can find my statement on the Council News page and can watch a recording of my remarks on the Council YouTube channel.
Thank you for your advocacy as we deliberated the budget. I appreciate receiving your emails, phone calls, and testimony. Keep ‘em coming!
Many of you spoke with me about your interest in a Breakfast with Balcombe on the weekend, so I will be hosting the first Saturday morning Breakfast with Balcombe on May 31st from 10:30AM to 12PM at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown. As always, this is your opportunity to join me for a cup of coffee and a conversation of your choice. You can drop by any time to chat with me in an informal community setting.
See you there! If you have any questions, please let me know.
