Montgomery County has received a $150,000 grant from the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) for its Food Truck Electrification Pilot Program, the first program of its kind in the region. The program aims to replace diesel-powered food truck generators with electric power systems, significantly reducing carbon emissions and improving public health.
The electric generator systems are projected to earn back their cost within two years through fuel savings. In collaboration with the Montgomery County Green Bank, the Food Truck Generator Electrification Pilot will offer a cash rebate plus 0 percent interest loans for the cost of equipment and installation, enabling operators to switch to electric generators and avoid upfront costs. The program has funding for up to 25 food trucks and other mobile service businesses.

Take Action:
Operators may submit a form to express interest and receive more information about converting food truck generators to electric. Montgomery County’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will communicate more details and begin accepting applications later this year.
The County continues to make progress on bringing-in federal funding for EV charging stations. The following County properties have been selected for funding through the Maryland Equitable Charging Infrastructure Partnership (MECIP) award under the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Round 1B Corridor Program:

The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) is seeking input from stakeholders and the general public for a new Fiscal Year 2025 Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Equity Program that will support low and moderate income, overburdened, and underserved communities in the state.
The EVSE Equity Program will use the $23 million announced by the Moore-Miller administration earlier this year to support Maryland’s climate agenda and increase access to affordable and reliable electric vehicle charging networks.
Please visit MEA’s EVSE Equity Program webpage for the Notice of Intent and Request for Information. Please send your feedback to MEA’s Request for Information by Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
