Youth Basketball Registration Underway
Nothing but net! Registration for Montgomery County Recreation’s winter youth basketball program is underway. These leagues provide a rich environment to foster the development of basketball techniques and advance skills in discipline, sportsmanship, teamwork and more.
From instructional leagues to future star clinics, there is something for young basketball players of all levels. Last year, our youth basketball leagues had more than 5,800 participants and 800 coaches with games and practices held at more than 100 locations across the County.
Interested in becoming a coach? We’re looking for adult volunteers to coach on Saturdays and/or Sunday for our youth leagues. We prefer volunteers with knowledge of basketball rules who demonstrate good character, patience and have a desire to help children learn. Want to serve as a referee instead? Officiant training is provided in late November and early December. To learn more, email rec.sports@montgomerycounty.com.
And don't miss out on our adult leagues! Montgomery County will offer both an adult and a therapeutic recreation league.
In Episode 8 of our Inside Recreation podcast, host Carmen Berrios Martinez speaks with several members of our Countywide Programs team, about our different youth sports programs as well as trends on youth sports nationally.
Montgomery County is celebrating “Active Aging Week", taking place now through Sunday, Oct. 6. The initiative is part of an international effort to highlight the benefits of maintaining healthy, active lifestyles—physically, mentally and socially—for older adults.
During the week, there are a variety of free programs, events and activities taking place throughout the County for residents 50 and over.
Many of the week's events are taking place at our Montgomery County Recreation centers! With activities including Zumba, fall prevention and balance, pickleball, dance parties and more, take full advantage of your health and wellness and make new friends along the way.
