Over the last month, Montgomery County and the surrounding region have announced nearly $40 million in new grant awards to expand the EV charging network. This investment will result in dozens of new locations with EV charging where county residents live, work, and visit.
Montgomery County was awarded $2.6 million in funding for EV charging infrastructure at up to 17 County owned locations. In addition, the Maryland Clean Energy Center announced an award of $33 million under the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Round 1b award. Six Montgomery County sites are eligible to be developed under that program. The specific locations and other project details will be developed in consultation with Maryland Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration.
Metro Washington Council of Governments also announced an award of $3.9 million under the CFI Round 1b program for charging stations, with sites located in the Cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, and Manassas and Arlington, Fairfax, Frederick, and Prince George’s Counties
Earlier this year, $27 million in awards were announced in Maryland through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program and Round 1 of the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Grant, including multiple sites in Montgomery County.
Once grant agreements are finalized, Montgomery County and other awarded jurisdictions will contract with private vendors to install and operate EV charging stations. You can track the County locations that have been submitted in grant applications and their funding status on DEP's interactive planning map.
