Commercial buildings with benchmarking scores

Energy Benchmarking Reports Due June 3rd - Less Than One Month Remaining!

Energy benchmarking reports are due to DEP by Monday, June 3, 2024. This year, energy benchmarking is required of all commercial and multifamily buildings 25,000 gross square feet and larger.

The process for submitting your calendar year 2023 benchmarking report to DEP has changed. Reporters must follow the updated instructions to submit data.

To report your benchmarking data to DEP once you have entered all required information into ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, reporters must connect with MontgomergyDEP and share your building(s) via ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager. Reports can then be submitted via the new Montgomery County Building Energy Benchmarking Reporting Portal.

Within the Portal, users can:

  • Claim building(s)
  • Submit an extension, waiver, or exemption request
  • Submit annual benchmarking report(s)
  • Re-report data for previous calendar years or submit revisions to benchmarking data
  • View compliance status and disclosed data for each building

The Montgomery County Green Bank is providing assistance to connect benchmarkers with contractors and help subsidize costs for benchmarking, data verification, and gross floor area measurements. Visit the Technical Assistance application form to request assistance.

As always, the DEP team is also available for support. Please visit the benchmarking website for additional resources or contact Energy@MontgomeryCountyMD.gov with questions or for assistance.

Resilience Hub Workshop Registration

Resilience hubs are trusted gathering spaces that are enhanced to support and engage residents, distribute resources, and reduce carbon pollution while enhancing quality of life and assisting communities both during and after emergencies to minimize impacts and recover quickly. A resilience hub may be located at a trusted community space like a recreation center, faith-based or nonprofit facility, or multi-family housing building.

Join the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (OEMHS) on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Building for a dynamic, participatory workshop to learn more about the underlying concepts and framework for building out effective resilience hubs. The workshop will include a panel discussion about what a great resilience hub looks like, an exercise to facilitate connections and cooperation with partner agencies and organizations, a panel with local practitioners already working on resilience hubs, and discussions with experts on how to maneuver logistical and financial hurdles in the development of resilience hubs to benefit your community. Register here.

Additionally, information will be provided comparing Hampshire Towers Apartments to its sister building, the Takoma Overlook Condominium, which launched its own aggressive decarbonization project in recent years but followed a very different path.

There will also be two tours conducted of the building electrification projects at the end of this event for interested guests.  Register to attend and email info@mcgreenbank.org to express interest in participating in either the 1:20 pm or 1:40 pm tour.
