Charter Review Commission Transmits its 2024 Report to the Montgomery County Council |
|
ROCKVILLE, Md., May 2, 2024—The Charter Review Commission has submitted its recommendations report concerning proposed Montgomery County Charter amendments to the Montgomery County Council. The 2024 report can be found here.
“The Council thanks the Charter Review Commission for their ongoing work and the Commission’s 2024 report,” said Council President Andrew Friedson. “The current Charter was adopted in 1968 as our County's Constitution and has been amended through the years. The Commission does the important work of hearing from residents and working with County departments to develop suggestions for possible changes. We look forward to reviewing their recommendations.”
The 11-member bipartisan Charter Review Commission studies the County Charter to find recommendations for possible changes. The Commission must report to the County Council in May of every even-numbered year with any recommendations for possible Charter revisions.
The Council will review the Commission’s recommendations at a full Council session, and if it decides to place any proposed Charter amendments on the ballot for the general election in November 2024, the Council will adopt a resolution to that effect. If the Council adopts a resolution for any or all changes, the County Attorney must then certify any ballot questions to the State Board of Elections no later than August 2, 2024.
