The Council has now received both the FY25-30 Capital Improvements Program (CIP) and the FY25 Operating Budget from the County Executive. We will be diving headfirst into the budget over the next two months. Both budgets are available to the public on the Office of Management and Budget website.
This month, we will be reviewing portions of the operating budget in our respective committees, and then coming together as a full Council for a holistic review in May. We have already begun to review the CIP in committees, and have put forward recommendations on multiple projects as a full Council. Just yesterday, we reviewed the Montgomery County Public Schools' CIP.
As I've mentioned in previous newsletters, there are several District 2 (and adjacent) projects that I have been closely following. I am focused on the Clarksburg Library, the Western County Recreation Center, Montgomery College's Germantown Campus, the Hoyles Mill Transit Center, the automotive program at Damascus High School, and the Darnestown Elementary School learning center. If there are specific capital projects that would like to bring to my attention, I encourage you to reach out. It is important for us to hear from constituents when it comes to the budget.
Below, I have included information about upcoming public hearings related to the budget, as well as upcoming committee sessions. My newsletter usually focuses only on my committees, however, the budget is incredibly important and I therefore want to share as much information as possible.
Please note that committee schedules are subject to change. The most up to date schedules are always available on the Council website. Committee and Council sessions can be found on the Council YouTube page, live and on demand.
Upcoming Public Hearings
As a reminder, the deadline to sign up to testify for a 1:30PM public hearing is 2PM the day before. The deadline for a 7PM public hearing is 5PM the day before. You can sign up to testify on the Council website. Testimony can be provided live - in person or virtually - or as an written, audio, or video testimony that you can upload to be posted on the Council website. There are many ways to participate and make your voice heard, so I encourage you to share your opinion through one or more of the available options.
