Capital Area Solar Switch OPEN for the Spring!

Montgomery County is promoting another round of the successful Capital Area Solar Switch program in collaboration with Solar United Neighbors, iChoosr, and other Capital Area governments, including Rockville, Takoma Park, and Bowie, MD.

The program's first iteration, which ran from May to August of 2023 in D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia was a resounding success, with almost 2,000 sign-ups across the region. As part of this program, homeowners saved an average of $4,115 on a standard-sized solar installation.

HEECAP Submissions Due Monday, April 8!

Are you a non-profit organization or a condo association?

If so, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the Office of Grants Management (OGM) are soliciting grant applications from eligible nonprofits and condominium associations for the County’s FY 2024 Healthy, Efficient, Electrified, Climate-Adapted Pilot (HEECAP) Homes Grants Program, which aims to retrofit income-eligible houses for energy efficiency, a healthy indoor environment, climate resilience and all-electric appliances.

Energy Summit Right Around the Corner

Now in its 11th year, the annual Montgomery County Energy Summit has offered cutting-edge education focused on the latest trends in green building, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and related commercial, multifamily, and residential topics in Montgomery County. 

The 2024 Energy Summit will take place on April 15 and 16th at the metro-accessible Silver Spring Civic Building in downtown Silver Spring, MD. This year’s Summit will focus on preparing the commercial building community for compliance with energy benchmarking, building energy performance standards, and emerging building codes. 

Not only that but the Summit will provide education sessions, hands-on Q&A and support, an “innovation alley” showcasing products and services, and a networking reception. And did we mention Maryland Secretary of the Environment Serena McIlwain will provide the keynote address on Tuesday? 

Registration is $40/day, or $75 for both days. To request free entry to the Energy Summit due to financial hardship, please contact energy@montgomerycountymd.gov with the nature of your request.

Don't Miss the Healthy Homes Fair

Our friends at Electrify DC want to make it easier, faster and more affordable for you to #decarbonize your home.  That is why they created the Healthy Homes Fair. This event is a FREE, come-one-come-all event for homeowners, renters, and home renovation professionals, with jam-packed programming including cooking demonstrations, an appliance “petting zoo”, a bouncy castle for the kids, and more!

While there are many, many events happening during the month (check out our Community Calendar), we should be celebrating our 🌍planet 🌏 every day of the year and taking action to use less energy, transition away from fossil fuels, and add renewable energy in our lives.  

Greenfest

SAVE THE DATE! Montgomery County Greenfest returns on April 27, 2024 from 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM at BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown.

This free event is the largest annual environmental festival in Montgomery County.
