New Homes in Maryland Must be EV-Ready

Home Charging

In October 2023, a new state law came into effect that requires that all new construction housing units with a separate garage, carport or driveway, to include electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE). House Bill 830 requires either an installed Level 2 EV Charger or an EV-ready parking space that has electric panel capacity and a full circuit to allow for the future installation of a Level 2 Charger.

Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services can answer questions about these new requirements.  Current property owners can apply for an electrical permit to install charging on their property. Homeowners without off-street parking can apply for a right-of-permit to install curbside charging.
