Out-of-School Programs Return This Fall
Summer may be over, but the fun doesn’t stop at Montgomery County Recreation as we move into fall! Our out-of-school programs are back and allow participants a safe environment for a variety of different activities, including sports, arts and crafts, dance, cooking, STEM and more.
Join us for Club Adventure, an after-school program for children from kindergarten through fifth grade. For just $75 per month and available at 10 locations, Club Adventure features fun, after-school programming for youth. And don't miss Club Friday, a weekly Friday night event for children in third grade through sixth grade, including a DJ lead dance party, bingo, raffles and other special events.
We are also excited for the return of our Youth Development run after-school programs starting again this fall, including Excel Beyond The Bell, RecZone, RecXtra, Soccer4Change, TeenWorks, and more. Visit our website to learn more about these various programs.
Also, stay tuned as we will soon be sharing details on our upcoming Kids Day Out and Teens Day Out programs, a fun alternative on days when school is not in session!
Share Your Feedback!
Montgomery County Recreation would like to thank everyone who participated in our many camps and programs this summer. To help us evaluate and plan for the future, please take a few minutes to complete the 2023 Summer Program Survey.
We appreciate learning about your experience and look forward to an even better summer next year!
Fall Registration is Underway
Fall registration is underway for Montgomery County Recreation programs and activities! Fall offerings include aquatics, fitness, sports, visual and performing arts, therapeutic recreation, adult 55+ programming and more. The digital GUIDE is available online.
Online registration is available at ActiveMONTGOMERY.org. Registration is also available by mail, drop-off or in-person. For more information about registration, visit the website or call the customer service team at 240-777-6840.
And make sure to save the date for winter registration, Monday, Nov. 13!
A Paws-itively Good Time at Pooch Pool Party!
We had a fur-tastic turnout at our annual "Pooch Pool Party." More than 200 dogs, and their owners, enjoyed two great days of fun in the water at the Upper County Outdoor Pool in Gaithersburg.
Check out this short video from the event. We look forward to hosting it again next year.
Seeking Applicants for Recreation and Parks Advisory Board
We are seeking applicants to fill 10 vacancies on the Countywide Recreation and Parks Advisory Board. The deadline to apply is Sept. 13. The Board serves as a conduit for community input to Montgomery County Recreation, the County Executive, and the County Council relating to recreation policies and services. Board members also assist in developing and maintaining relationships with the Board of Education, M-NCPPC and various voluntary agencies in the County in matters affecting recreation programs and services.
The Board advocates for budget items and critical programs and services of importance to the community, appears at special Montgomery County Recreation functions and visits recreational programs and activities.
Eight vacancies are for representatives of the County’s recreation areas: two from Down County (Western Montgomery and Silver Spring regions combined), one from East County, three from Mid-County, and two from UpCounty. Two vacancies are for the public-at-large to represent a cross-section of the population of the County.
To learn more and apply: On the Committee’s web page, read the notice and then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click “Apply for This Committee.” Then complete the brief application form. You will be required to attach a letter of interest and resume. You may access information regarding boards, committees, and commissions, including further application instructions here.
Save The Date! Youth Basketball Registration Begins Monday, Oct. 2
Nothing but net! Registration for Montgomery County Recreation’s Youth Basketball programs will begin Monday, Oct. 2. These leagues provide a rich environment to foster development of basketball techniques and advance skills in discipline, sportsmanship, teamwork and more. For more information, visit our sports page.
Interested in coaching? We need adult volunteers to coach basketball for ages 5-17. We prefer volunteers with knowledge of basketball rules who demonstrate good character, patience and have a desire to help children learn. If interested, email rec.sports@montgomerycountymd.gov.
VIP Day Returns to Montgomery County Fair!
The 31st annual VIP Day was held in August at the Montgomery County Agricultural Fairgrounds in Gaithersburg. It was the first time that the event had been held since 2019! Participants and their families spent a beautiful day with 4-H volunteers seeing barn animals, playing games and going on thrilling rides at the fair. We can’t wait to do it again next year!
