Montgomery County Kicks Off July with Independence Day Celebrations
Montgomery County hosted two free Independence Day fireworks displays with Mid-County Sparkles at Albert Einstein High School and Germantown Glory at South Germantown Recreational Park. Check out some of the photos on Flickr.
It was a packed crowd of community members who got to enjoy dazzling fireworks displays and terrific music from several different groups. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
Celebrating National Park and Recreation Month!
July is Park and Recreation Month! Montgomery County Recreation is inviting residents to enjoy in one, or all, of the hundreds of recreation programs offered that contribute to a healthier lifestyle and enhance the quality of life for all ages, cultures and abilities. The month-long celebration is a National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) initiative.
Community members can share their stories about what Montgomery County Recreation means to them on social media through Facebook and Twitter using the hashtags #WhereCommunityGrows and #ParkandRecMonth23.

Summer Camps Are Underway
Summer is finally here, and our camps have kicked off. There are still spots available for July and August if you are still looking for something for your kids to do this summer. From therapeutic recreation to sports, arts and more, there is a camp for everyone!

BBQ Bonanza Brings Hundreds of 55+ Community Members Together
In June, Montgomery County Recreation hosted the second annual 55+ BBQ Bonanza at Smokey Glen Farm in Gaithersburg with hundreds in attendance. Watch the video.
A great time was had by all, and Recreation’s senior programs team look forward to another great event next year!
Save The Date: Fall Program Registration Begins Monday, Aug. 14
Montgomery County Recreation’s fall program registration begins at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 14 for County residents for most programs and activities! Registration for Bone Builders, Day Trippers and Senior Outdoor Adventures in Recreation (SOAR) will begin at 9 a.m.
Non-County residents will begin to register for Recreation’s programs beginning at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16.
Residents can once again build their own guide. A digital guide will also be available online, Friday Aug. 4. While online registration is encouraged, registration will also be available by mail, drop-off or in person.

Montgomery County Recreation Receives Six 2023 NACo Achievement Awards
Montgomery County Recreation won six awards for its operations and innovation in the 2023 National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievements Awards! Among the awards, the department won the ‘Best in Category’ award in the Parks and Recreation category for its outdoor fitness equipment program at Holiday Park Senior Center.
Congratulations to all of our dedicated staff for the success of these award-winning programs that provide so much value to County residents! NACo is a nonprofit organization that provides services to the nation’s 3,069 counties and represents county governments across the United States. The NACo Achievement Awards recognize a county’s outstanding commitment to public service in various categories.
