Montgomery County has released the third-quarter update of its Fiscal Year 2023 Climate Work Plan, highlighting ongoing work on the County’s Climate Action Plan. In the second quarter of FY23, the County made progress on 40 actions to help reach the goals of the plan. The Climate Action Plan (CAP), unveiled in 2021, is a strategic plan to reduce community-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 80 percent by 2027 and 100 percent by 2035. The quarterly progress report summarizes the efforts undertaken by County departments and agencies to implement the CAP through innovative and collaborative projects in clean energy, building, transportation, carbon sequestration, climate adaptation, climate governance, public engagement, and zero waste. May 19th was National Bike to Work Day. The seven stops that the Department of Transportation hosted across Montgomery County were a hit! There are over 100 miles of bike lanes, with over eight miles of protected bike lanes across the County. Biking to your job or to run errands is a healthy form of transportation that does not produce pollution or add cars to the road – so if you enjoyed bike to work day, consider biking as a transportation alternative this summer. And don’t forget to put Bike to Work Day on your calendar for next year: its already been scheduled for May 17, 2024!
