Retail Business Rental Assistance Grants

Applications Open on September 1

A second round of Small Business Rental Assistance (SBRA) grants is coming! Montgomery County retail service establishments can apply from September 1 through September 30. To date, more than $910,000 has been distributed.

The program, administered by Montgomery County and funded through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, can provide each eligible business with a grant of up to three months of rent based on its current lease or $10,000, whichever is less. To learn more and apply, you can find the English and Spanish recordings of the information sessions here.  Businesses must be in good standing to be eligible for awards, so please confirm your status with the State of Maryland before September 1.

Native Plant Sale

Take advantage of the beautiful weather to get started on next year’s plantings while also supporting our local ecosystem with native plants. Online preorders for the Locust Grove Nature Center's Native Plant Sale will run until September 6. Preorders will be available for pick up on September 11 in Gaithersburg. 

If you prefer to browse your milkweeds, coneflowers, and mallows in person, there will be an in-person sale on September 17-18 from 10 am-2 pm each day at Locust Grove Nature Center (7777 Democracy Blvd., Bethesda) in the Armstrong Cabin (to the right of the tennis center).

Bethesda Contemporary Art Awards

Falls to Flames by Trawick Prize finalist Caryn Martin of Baltimore Credit from the Bethesda BEAT.

The Bethesda Arts and Entertainment District has selected eight regional artists from a pool of over 250 artists from Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.as finalists for The Trawick Prize. The award winners will be announced at a private reception September 7, but the public is invited to enjoy the art on display from September 8 to October 2 at Gallery B, at 7700 Wisconsin Ave., Suite E. Gallery hours for the duration of the exhibit will be between 12 and 5 p.m. from Thursday to Sunday.
