Three former Montgomery County residents are playing in Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles this Sunday!
Jake Funk, 24, is a running back for the Los Angeles Rams. He was selected in the NFL draft from the University of Maryland. Jake led Damascus to a 3A state title in 2015.
Keandre Jones, 24, is a linebacker for the Cincinnati Bengals. He played at Good Counsel in Olney. He went on to play at Ohio State and then the University of Maryland.
Zach Kerr, 31, is a nose tackle for the Bengals. He played football for Quince Orchard High School and then Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia. Zach also played during college at the University of Delaware.

COUNCIL NEWS
At the County Council this week -
- The Council presented a proclamation recognizing senior legislative attorney Robert "Bob" Drummer for his many years of service to the Montgomery County Council. Best of luck, Bob! View proclamation here.
- The Council, sitting as the Board of Health, received updates from County government regarding the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) & Health Planning. View the staff report here.
- The Council received a briefing on COVID Rent Assistance and Evictions from various government agencies and stakeholders.
- Information included COVID rent assistance to date, plans for opening an application portal for the second phase of rent assistance, continued efforts to support tenants through non-profit partnerships, and trends in evictions. See staff report here.
PUBLIC SAFETY AND GOVERNMENT OPERATIONS COMMITTEES
I am proud to be the Chair of the Public Safety (PS) Committee and a member of the Government Operations (GO) Committee.
- The PS committee met to discuss Expedited Bill 49-21, Police - Police Accountability Board – Administrative Charging Committee – Established. This bill would establish a 5-member Police Accountability Board nominated by the County Executive and confirmed by the County Council and establish an Administrative Charging Committee. - The PS and the Education & Culture committees met jointly to discuss the County Executive's updated recommendations and actions relating to the Community Engagement Officer Program (formerly Student Resource Officer (SRO) program) and the changes to the Memorandum of Understanding. - The GO committee met to discuss three agenda items: 1) Supplemental Appropriation to the FY22 Operating Budget, Montgomery County Government, Department of Transportation, Transit Services, $8,631,001; 2) Expedited Bill 2-22, Montgomery County Municipal Revenue Program –Amendments; and 3) Special appropriation to the FY22 Operating Budget, Montgomery County Government, Payments to Municipalities Non-Departmental Account - $5,000,000. - The GO and Planning, Housing & Economic Development committees met jointly to discuss Declaration of No Further Need – Disposition via Sale and Renovation of a Portion of Warner Circle Special Park located at 10231 Carroll Place in Kensington. See staff report here.
DISTRICT 3 HISTORICAL NOTE
Clarence Charles "Pint" Isreal
One of Rockville's most famous baseball players was Clarence Charles "Pint" Isreal. In 1923, his parents moved the family from Georgia to Lincoln Park, looking for a better life. In 1933, Clarence was signed by the semipro traveling team, the Washington Royals. He went on to play professionally in the Negro National League for the Homestead Grays and Newark Eagles, helping his teams win multiple Negro World Series championships. The City of Rockville named a park with a ball field in Isreal's honor after his death in 1987. Clarence was a role model and set a great example for the youth of the Rockville community. He was inducted into the Rockville Baseball Hall of Fame in their 2019 Inaugural Class!!

The Three Reported Lynchings in Montgomery County - Virtual

There are three documented cases of lynching in Montgomery County: George Peck, John Diggs-Dorsey and Sidney Randolph. Archivist Sarah Hedlund presents comprehensive narratives on these three important cases during this virtual event.
