Commission on Aging’s Cable Show Rebranded as 50+ in Montgomery County

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021

The Montgomery County Commission on Aging’s (COA) long-running cable show is now called 50+ in Montgomery County, to better reflect older adult residents.  The rebranding of the show, previously known as Seniors Today, includes a new host, name, format, and logo.  Katie Smith, the new host, is a member of the COA.

50+ in Montgomery County will continue as a monthly show, airing on cable television and available on the County’s YouTube channel.  The show is produced by the COA, in coordination with the County’s Office of Public Information, and provides important, breaking news and information of interest to the County’s growing older adult population and their caregivers.

The next episode, which begins airing Oct. 1, will focus on older adults and mental health.  Guests will be Regina Morales, deputy chief of Behavioral Health and Crisis Services with the County’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Liz Necka, program director for the Individual Behavioral Health Processes Branch Division of Behavioral and Social Research at the National Institute on Aging.

The program airs on Comcast’s channel 6 and channel 996 (HD); RCN channel 6 and channel 1056 (HD); and Verizon channel 30.  The show is broadcast Sundays at 6 p.m., Mondays at 10 a.m., Tuesdays at 1 a.m., and 12:30 p.m.; Thursdays at 2:30 a.m.; Fridays at 10:30 a.m.; and Saturdays at 2 a.m.  The show can also be viewed online and on the County’s YouTube channel.

The COA, authorized by the Older Americans Act, P.L. 116-131, was established in 1974 to advise DHHS, the County Executive and the County Council on the needs, interests, and issues of older adult residents, and to advocate on their behalf at the local, state, and national levels.  For more information, visit the Commission on Aging’s website.
