The photo to the right was taken at College Gardens Park in Rockville. This park is one of the many great parks located in District 3.

COUNCIL NEWS

At the County Council this week -

  • The Council presented three proclamations to recognize: Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Arab American Heritage Month and Chesapeake Bay Week. View proclamations.

  • The Council Council unanimously approved Bill 49-20, the “Housing Justice Act” which will strengthen protections against housing discrimination in the County and help to advance racial equity and social justice. I am a proud lead sponsor of this legislation along with Councilmember Evan Glass.
    • This legislation limits inquiries into certain types of arrests and convictions in rental housing applications and requires increased transparency during the criminal background and credit check process.
  • I was pleased to introduce, along with my colleagues Council Vice President Gabe Albornoz and Councilmembers Nancy Navarro,

Expedited Bill 14-21, Finance – Working Families Income Supplement. This bill would alter certain requirements for residents to qualify for the Working Families Income Supplement (WFIS). I believe that this bill will be very helpful to so many families struggling from the impacts of COVID-19.

  • The Council passed a resolution to adopt a fourth amended Board of Health regulation to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the County. This regulation provides guidance for high school graduations in the County. The amended Board of Health regulation and the Council staff report can be viewed here.

DISTRICT 3 HISTORICAL NOTE

ll

Rose Hill Farm Barn & Milk House

127 Bullard Circle, Rockville, MD 20850

The Rose Hill Barn and Milk House is a good example of a small-scale 20th-century agricultural barn and dairy. New discoveries in public health in the late 19th century led to requirements for the sanitary collection and storage of fresh milk in a separate building, distinct from the barn. This agricultural set is associated with the adjacent estate home of the Bullard family known as Rose Hill Mansion. The Barn and Milk House was built in 1900 by a previous owner, but Dr. Ernest Bullard assembled a large farm property that included this property, Rose Hill Mansion and Chestnut Lodge Sanatorium.
