One week ago, I received my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at a nearby County health clinic. It was easy, fast and painless! Please obtain the vaccine at your earliest opportunity. For County health clinics, you will need to preregister here.

Also, Spring arrives tomorrow - Saturday, March 20th!

COUNCIL NEWS


At the County Council this week - 

  • The Council issued the following proclamationsRecognizing Vaccine Hunters and Celebrating Bethesda's 150th Birthday. Both proclamations can be viewed here.

  • The Council unanimously passed the Oversight and Small Business Investment Act (Bill 37-19) that expands the eligibility for Montgomery County-based entrepreneurs in the life sciences, biotech and medical sectors to receive County supported research & development grants.
  • The Council unanimously approved legislation to create a Revenue Estimating Group that will review and forecast County revenues.
    • This will help the County more accurately project revenues and build consensus to improve fiscal management of the County’s $5.97 billion annual operating budget and $14 billion six-year Capital Improvements Program (CIP).

PUBLIC SAFETY AND GOVERNMENT OPERATIONS COMMITTEES


I am proud to be the Chair of the Public Safety (PS) Committee and a member of the Government Operations (GO) Committee. 

  • The PS and Health & Human Services committees met jointly to discuss OLO Report 2021-4 : Public Safety Responses to Mental Health Situations; to receive an update: Mobile Crisis Team and Crisis Center; and to discuss Supplemental Appropriation, FY21 Operating Budget, DHHS - $508,853 for Medication Assisted Treatment Program.

  • The GO and Transportation & Environment committees met jointly to discuss a Resolution to repeal and replace Resolution 16-1570 with respect to the White Flint Sector Plan Implementation Strategy and related amendments to the FY21-26 CIP. A copy of the committee packet is here.

LAST WEEK'S BUSINESS BRIEFING

For the past year, I have been hosting a series of Business Briefings to help small businesses and nonprofits during the global pandemic. Last week, I hosted my 18th Business Briefing with special guests George Koutsos, Operations Manager for Blue Ridge Restaurant Group and Chris McCasland & Michael Opalski, two Rockville dads who co-founded the popular City Bonfires! Hebron House

11 Wood Lane, Rockville, MD 20850

Jesse and Celestine Hebron operated a printing business for over 50 years at this location. It was one of the most successful black business ventures in Montgomery County. Jesse Hebron started the printing business in a shop on Falls Road in 1932. He and Celestine married in 1938, just a few years before Jesse left to serve in the Army in World War II. In 1945 he received an honorable discharge and returned to Rockville. The Hebrons then moved their home and business to this location on Wood Lane.

In honor of Women's History Month, Patricia Maclay, MD, a Commissioner with the Montgomery County Commission for Women (CFW), will present an overview of the Commission’s work in the community. Covering topics ranging from youth engagement to the Women’s Legislative Briefing, Dr. Maclay will invite discussion about the issues facing women and girls in the County.

Medicare Options Overview - Virtual Program

Thursday, March 25, from 6:00-8:00 pm

Montgomery County State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) will present expert, unbiased information about the choices you need to know about before enrolling in Medicare.
