Montgomery County is now providing a vaccination pre-registration sign-up link for residents 75 and older.
It is critical everybody understands that Montgomery County government can provide only as many vaccinations as vaccine doses provided by the State, which in turn relies on vaccine doses provided by the Federal government. So far, the number of vaccines the County has received from the State per week has simply not come close to the maximum number of vaccines the County is able to administer in a week. The County Health Department has administered all 6,700 vaccines provided for this week. The next State shipment of vaccines directly to the County is set for Tuesday.
As we have previously shared, local hospitals receive their vaccines directly from the State separate from the County Department of Health. Montgomery County health officials are now in discussions with local hospitals to help deploy their unused and excess vaccines.
If you are 75 or older, you can start filling out this pre-registration link today. But please remain patient for further details as to when and where you may receive the vaccine, as well as who will be administering the vaccine. These details depend on getting more vaccine doses than are currently being provided.
In addition to the announcement of the start of Phase 1B, Governor Larry Hogan announced yesterday that those in Phase 1C of the State's vaccination plan would be eligible to receive shots starting Monday, January 25th. Phase 1C includes those 65 and older and those age 18-64 with high-risk medical conditions. The same disclaimers apply -- we simply will not have more details on when and where you may receive a vaccine, and who will be administering the vaccines until more shots are provided. We will be back in touch when a similar pre-registration sign-up link is provided for other eligible residents, or with other similar details.
After President-Elect Biden's announcement today, we remain hopeful that the County and healthcare providers will get more vaccines in order to meet the demand. In the meantime, please continue to visit the County's vaccine website for latest info and to sign up for county vaccine text and email alerts. While we may not have all the answers, we will continue to share what we know as decisions and adjustments are being made every week regarding the process.
