New Vaccine Distribution Details

As you may have heard, the Governor held a press conference this week and announced a new rolling vaccine allocation model. He also adjusted the priority groups as you can see below. Here is what we know today on the priority groups, how the vaccine would be distributed, as well as some initial timing estimates. While our office will continue to compile updates and send them out through this newsletter, we have listed some additional options for you to be able to receive the latest information.

State Priority Group Summary

For more detail on the priority groups, please visit our County website

Entities Responsible for Administering the Vaccine:

  • For each tier in each phase, you can see that some of the vaccines are being given to nongovernmental entities to administer, such as hospitals or pharmacies. As we move into the next phases, doctors offices and other providers will be assisting in the dissemination as well.
  • The County currently has a survey open for health care providers and facilities. As we get closer to public distribution, we expect a process for residents so please stay tuned regarding those details. We will be sure to share that with you when they are available.
  • Specifically for Phase 1A:
    • Maryland Department of Health is providing vaccines for hospitals.
    • CVS and Walgreens are responsible for long-term care facilities, including nursing homes.
    • Montgomery County Health Department is vaccinating first responders and some healthcare workers who are not affiliated with hospitals/health systems and long-term care facilities.

Statistics on Vaccine Distribution Thus Far:

  • The State has a public vaccination dashboard.
  • In the first three weeks of vaccine distribution, Maryland had only received enough vaccines for 4.4% of the population so we hope the federal government can adjust our allocation so that these numbers improve dramatically.
  • In terms of the County, as of January 5th, of the 4,300 doses the County received in the first shipments, the County administered 94% (4,047 doses). We also received another 8,600 doses this week.

For Additional Vaccine Information and Updates:

  • Sign Up for Emails: To receive email updates from the executive branch in addition to our newsletter, you can sign up for the County vaccine updates here.

  • Visit the County's Website: The County's vaccine website will also be updated periodically when new information is available.

  • Follow Public Council Sessions: The Council has been pushing the Executive Branch to better communicate the process and improve operations. We have requested a public meeting for County health officials to answer specific questions and address concerns in a public setting, which is expected to be part of Tuesday’s Council agenda. To tune into the discussion, you can click here on Tuesday and look for the Council session for January 12th. The session will also be streamed live on the Council's YouTube page.

Again, we appreciate your patience during these trying times and while we may not have all the answers, we will continue to share what we know as decisions and adjustments are being made every week regarding the process.
