Council Statement on the Passing of
U.S. Senator Paul S. Sarbanes

For Immediate Release: Monday, December 7, 2020

ROCKVILLE, Md., Dec. 7, 2020—Council President Tom Hucker made the following statement on behalf of the Council on the passing of former U.S. Senator Paul S. Sarbanes.

“The entire Montgomery County Council family is deeply saddened by the passing of U.S. Senator Paul Sarbanes. We have lost a giant of Maryland and national politics. His commitment to improving the lives of Marylanders, his tenacious work ethic and efforts to expand low-income housing, protect the environment, promote mass transit and ensure investor protections and consumer privacy have left a lasting legacy. We are fortunate to have a physical reminder of his work in our own community at the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center in Silver Spring. We send our condolences to the Sarbanes family and especially to our friend Congressman John Sarbanes.”
