DPS Moves to Wheaton as of October 12th, 2020

DPS Offices will officially be relocated to Wheaton effective October 12th, 2020. The new building is located at 2425 Reedie Drive across from the Westfield Wheaton Mall.  DPS offices will remain closed to walk-in customers, the customer drop-off for documents and plans will be located on the 7th 

DPS offices will continue to follow the County’s Policy on re-opening and DPS Offices remain closed to the public.

DPS Provides Guidelines for Outdoor Tent Dining

As cooler weather quickly approaches; Montgomery County has released new guidelines for use of tents and heaters for Outdoor Dining purposes during the Covid-19 health emergency.  These guidelines include: Guide to Outdoor Café Seating, Covid Guide to Outdoor Dining Tents, and Requirements for Outdoor Heating.  If your restaurant has previously registered for Outdoor Dining and now plan to utilize tents, you must re-register with DPS (provide link to registration form).  This will allow DPS inspection staff to visit your establishment to ensure the seating, tent and heating source are installed safely.

Join Montgomery County’s Department of Permitting Services on Thursday October 8th at 4 pm to learn about the new solar setback requirements in the 2018 International Residential Code. Meet Tyler Mosman, DPS’s senior engineer, who will be discussing Montgomery County’s interpretation of pathways as well as identifying common reasons residential solar plans are held up in permit review. Stick around after the presentation for a short Q&A session.

Tyler Mosman, PE. Tyler holds a Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland at College park has over 20 years experience in the Fire Protection and Electrical Engineering Industries. He has experience as both a private design consultant and as a public review and inspection authority which gives him an in-depth knowledge of the entire design process including initial needs assessment, drawing creation, design review, construction, commissioning, and project closeout.

DPS will host an open Forum for Small Businesses to come with questions and concerns. This month includes a presentation on the Outdoor Seating Guidelines, Outdoor Dining Tents and Electrical Requirements for Outdoor Heating.  Come listen and join the conversation to help small business in Montgomery County thrive.

New Process for Special Events Permits

The new Special Event Permit assists event organizers through the county permitting process by providing requirements and guidelines necessary to produce a special event in Montgomery County.  The special event permitting process has been established to create a streamlined approach to the planning, review, and on-site management of events to insure the health, welfare and safety of the general public.

National Fire Prevention Week

National Fire Prevention Week is October 4-10.   This year’s theme is “Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen.” Cooking is the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries and Thanksgiving is the leading day for fires involving cooking equipment.   Most of these fires are caused by unattended cooking.  For more information on cooking safe in your kitchen check out NFPA
