Reopening short-term COVID-19 Rental Assistance Program:  

  • $600 per month for a three-month total of $1,800  
  • Renters may apply to the Housing Opportunities Commission before Monday August 31 at 2:00 p.m.  
  • Renters can find information and submit their application at https://hocmc.org/extra/878-covid-rental-assistance-program.html     
  • Eligibility requirements include maximum household income; income impacted by COVID emergency; at least one month past due rent; U.S. citizenship or qualified alien status (permanent resident included); not participating in housing choice; not for those renting a room. 
  • Extraordinarily simplified application, compared with the initial round of this program: Documentation requirements have been streamlined. 
  • To apply: 
    • The tenant completes the application online, or after picking up an application at one of the four HOC offices listed;  
    • The tenant submits with their application: 
      • Copy of photo ID (MD drivers, MD state ID, passport) 
      • Copy of pages of lease with address, rent, occupants, and signature page 
      • Landlord-provided evidence of past due on rent for at least one month 
      • Landlord’s rental license number 
      • Landlord-provided W-9  
  • Every application submitted during the two-week period will be randomly assigned for order of review.

  • If you've received a summons for a court hearing, or a decision on your eviction case from the courts, assistance may be available for you through Housing Stabilization Services. Please call 311 (240-777-0311) to discuss your situation.
