Statement from Council President Katz on death of Montgomery County resident related to COVID-19

ROCKVILLE, Md., March 22, 2020—Council President Sidney Katz made the following statement on the first death of a Montgomery County resident associated with COVID-19.

Today, is a sorrowful one in Montgomery County as we have learned of the first confirmed death associated with COVID-19. Our condolences go out to the family and friends of this Montgomery County resident. As the health experts have advised us from the start of this global pandemic, it is our seniors and those with preexisting health conditions who are most at risk from this insidious virus.

The Council appreciates the work of all the medical professionals and first responders who are on the front lines each day protecting all our community members during this time filled with uncertainty.

The death of this Montgomery County resident serves as a stark reminder that we are all responsible for what we do in our daily lives to ensure that we are not helping to spread COVID-19. Wash your hands, practice social distancing and stay at home unless travel is essential.
