My Responsibilities

I am honored to represent District 3 on the Montgomery County Council. I serve as Vice President for the Council, Chair of the Public Safety Committee and a member of the Government Operations Committee.

Council News

At the October 22nd County Council Session:

  • I presented a proclamation recognizing October as Cyber Security Awareness Month. National Cyber Security Awareness Month – observed every October – was created as a collaborative effort between government and industry to ensure every American has the resources they need to stay safer and more secure online.
  • The Council received a semi-annual report of the Montgomery County Planning Board. Twice a year, the Montgomery County Planning Department and the Department of Parks jointly produce highlights of their work programs. Department leaders present the semi-annual report to the County Council for review and comment.

Katz in the Community

manna

I had a great time at the Manna Food Warehouse Grand Re-Opening in Gaithersburg. Manna's mission is to end hunger in Montgomery County through food distribution, education and advocacy. My office and I volunteered at Manna a few weeks ago. We saw firsthand what a difference Manna makes in the lives of so many!!

jca

Here I am with my friend (& 3rd grade classmate!) Greg Wims who is a a board member with Jewish Council for the Aging. JCA held their 46th Annual Meeting & Awards Ceremony at Ring House in Rockville. It is a fantastic organization that helps older adults in the Greater Washington region maintain independence, dignity, vitality and self-respect.

ivymount

It was an honor to attend the 3rd Annual "School to Work" Breakfast: Honoring Community Partnerships at the Ivymount School. Their programs provide community-focused life skills that prepare students for a successful transition from school to employment. The breakfast program included moving speeches and funny stories about the School to Work program.

pollard

Dr. DeRionne Pollard, President of Montgomery Colllege, and I hosted a "Happy Hour" for students interested in local government. We enjoyed a range of questions on small businesses, employment opportunities and our own personal stories. It is a joy to exchange ideas with the leaders of tomorrow!!
